movies!

So in the past 2 months I've watched way too many movies so I've started to think of myself as a little bit of a movie expert. Two nights ago my friend invited me to the latin american movie festival at Cinecenta and I got to see a movie called "Gatos Viejos" from Chile, translation "Old Cats". As I watched this latin american film I became inspired to write about the things I've learned about movies from around the world. Most of this information is useless but if you're ever in the mood for a foreign film this will help you narrow down where in the world you want to watch a movie from!
So, I've realized movies from america have 6 main categories: action, comedy, romantic, musical, sci-fi, and indy (I'm not including documentaries in this analysis because I like myself so I would never watch those, I also feel the same way about indy films but they will make sense for later on).
First off I'm going to talk about French films, all French films are romance movies with cute female leads. Now when I say cute you may be thinking I mean cute for a girl but what I really mean is cute like a fuzzy little animal. Usually this role is played by Audrey Tautou but can also sometimes be played by... -- nope, actually this role is always played by Audrey Tautou. Next I will be talking about Asian films! Asian films are always either sci-fi or action. Now I've been confused about choosing Asian films before because when I'm in the mood for action I don't want to accidentally watch a sci-fi film and vice-versa so here is a rule I made up that's foolproof in realizing whether a movie is sci-fi or action: if it's a ninja film it's action and if it's not a ninja film it's sci-fi. Let's move on. If you're in the mood for an indy movie (in other words you woke up this morning, didn't shower, put on your Toms, and drank a latte from Habit at some point) then I suggest any latin american movie because they're all bad and they're all a great way to waste two hours of your life.
Finally, if you're in the mood for a musical watch a movie from India (enough said, except... these are my personal favourite foreign type of film).
I realize I didn't write a foreign movie category that fits with comedy but really if you think about it any movie can be a comedy -- that just depends on the friends you're with and the headspace you're in.
Till next time!

just another day.

I've now had my 3rd treatment so I'm officially half way through my chemotherapy treatments (if everything goes as planned - pray it does). To be honest, I didn't think this journey was going to be so difficult. I've tried to take it one step at a time and one day at a time but every day seems like it's own frustrating journey that I have to trudge through to get to the next day. I think the most frustrating part is watching people's lives flourish around me while I feel like I'm going backwards in my own. Don't get me wrong, I'm happy for the people around me, but it's difficult to watch people have beautiful things happen all around them when you feel like you're stuck in a snow globe - just the same pieces of fake plastic floating around you in a different arrangement each day. I'm not angry about it, just bored and wishing it were over.

Anyhoo -- enough with the battitude. I posted a new song! It's from Brave, one of my favourite Disney princess movies (who am I kidding, I love them all) and she has long red hair... like me!... when I wear my long red wig :) It makes me happy because I feel like one day when my hair grows back and when it's long and brown I can dye it red, chase the wind, touch the sky, and re-enact this scene from the movie. I obviously will never actually re-enact this scene because (spoiler alert) I don't horse-back ride and I don't enjoy climbing to deathly heights but maybe one day I can go on a run and listen to it on my ipod and have the same feelings Merida had when she had her adventures in the movie.

hobbies & stuff

I've decided I officially hate having cancer. I went to see my oncologist a couple of days ago for my pre-chemo check up and I realized I misunderstood him during our first meeting and I will be have six chemo sessions instead of the four I thought I would be having. Furthermore, it's not just six sessions but a possible six to eight sessions (ugh, sigh, grr, bleck). Anyhoo, the reason why I hate cancer is not just because of having to go through chemotherapy but also because my memory is worse than ever, I get tired easily, I get too hot, I get too cold, food tastes bland, and I can't live my life the way I normally would. For example, I have compiled a list of a few things I missed out on during this summer due to my diagnosis:
-camp x3
-dressing up for the premier of Dark Knight Rises
-Adore in the park
-Canada day funitivities
-going to the lake (which in all fairness I probably would have gone maybe 5 times max anyways)
-doing my new testament class

Instead over the summer this is what I have accomplished in the 8 weeks since my diagnosis:
-finished 3 seasons of "Community" (that's right THREE)
-learned to do my make-up (which is actually pretty sweet. & big shout out to the cancer agency for hooking me up with the Look Good Feel Good campaign)
-started a blog (which was a new years resolution so that's actually pretty good too)
-planted a herb garden (in which the cilantro is growing... 1/3 not too shabby!)
-seen almost every 3-day release movie from the library (never been a goal of mine)
-finished the new Sophie Kinsella book, "I've got your number" (pretty good)
-started watching "Parks and Rec"

okay, these lists didn't help me prove my point... but cancer still sucks and I really like dressing up for movie premiers! If you haven't seen "Community" or "Parks and Rec" here are some links to my favourite clips, you can decide for yourself if either of them are worth your time -- hopefully one of them will be!
